Carolina about her first year living and working in Torsby, Sweden

Carolina and her husband moved together from Rome in Italy to Torsby in Sweden almost a year ago. They exchanged a big city for a Swedish village — and according to them, it was the best decision of their lives. Carolina tells us about a higher quality of life, a better work-life balance, and the closeness to nature.

Everything started with Carolina and her husband getting interviewed by the hospital. After that, things moved quickly, Carolina says. MediCarrera arranged a study tour for them to visit Torsby. At the Study Tour the couple spent a full day at the hospital, where they could meet the colleagues and try the work. They also recieved a guided tour of the town to be able to get to know Torsby properly before making their decision.

After deciding to accept the job offer, it was time for them to start with the most important — learning Swedish with MediCarrera´s language teachers.

“After the study tour we signed the contract and started the process for the course and the move. I think everything went very smoothly for us

Only a few months later, the couple is speaking fluent Swedish and enjoying their new life in Torsby.

“If you are a person that loves being close to nature, there is a lot to do in Torsby”

Moving from a big city in Italy to a village in Sweden is a big change.  Carolina describes it as stressful to live in a big city, and she loves the calm that Torsby brings her and her husband. A clear example is the traffic and constant noise in big cities — something she no longer experiences. She explains it by saying that “there is never any problems” in her new hometown.

During their free time, the couple enjoys spending time in nature. After work, they often go swimming in the different lakes around the town.

“My husband even started fishing and he loves it, he never did that before!”

Carolina tells us that Torsby is the perfect place if you love sports and want to be active. You can even go skiing all year around. It is also very common with horse-riding and Carolina tells us that many people have their own horses in Torsby.

“I got a lot of time to learn and get into the work and I never felt pressured”

Everything was organized step by step, and Carolina was gradually introduced to the different tasks, giving her the time she needed to learn them without stress.

“It is very good that you do not need to do everything by yourself from day one. Here you get a lot of time to ask questions and to study how everything works.”

Now Carolina has become comfortable at her new job and she mentions a lot of advantages with working in Torsby. Amongst other things she mentions that the amount of patients per doctor is much less than in Italy. In Sweden, you get the time to care for each patient without stressing.

The hospital in Torsby is modest in size which is just another benefit for Carolina.

“The fact that it is not a large hospital in size does not mean we have fewer patients. In fact, we receive many patients from the whole region. We also handle very interesting cases, and the work tasks are quite varied. It is exciting to have so many different patients.”

Moving to Sweden has changed Carolina and her husband’s life for the better. When talking to her, she is eager to share her positive experiences of living in Torsby. She also points out that life in Torsby has been much more affordable compared to Rome.

“The price of buying a house here is very low in comparison to other places”, Carolina says.

And we continue to talk about how other things, like food, also is more affordable.

Carolina does not have any regrets on her decision of going to Torsby. In fact she says that:

“This was the best decision of my life”

And she urges others to take the same step.
